Although they have only talked a few times, Gatsby and Tom appear almost aggressive towards one another. Do you think something other than Daisy might be the underlying cause? If so, what is it? If not, does Tom have the right to be possessive of Daisy when he is having an affair of his own?

Good Question Michelle! And i dont think that anything other than the affair with Daisy could be cause for aggression on Tom's part. Although he does seem like he was at times more stressed out than the other characters, he mainly was just disturbed that Daisy was with Gatsby, a much wealthier man than him. Also, i definitely think that Tom is being hypocritical of Daisy because of his own affair. He is also much more passive aggressive than Daisy, meaning he tends to bottle up most of his anger and explodes all at once. Tom is also more manipulative than Daisy because he wants Daisy to think that she is the only person at fault though they are both equally accountable and wrong.
ReplyDeleteI think that the only reason that Gatsby and Tom are aggressive towards each other is because of Daisy. However, I do not think that Tom has a right to be so possessive of Daisy. He is cheating on her with another woman, and therefore has no right to tell Daisy what she can and cannot do.
